About Holy PDF

Free PDF tools, born from a very ordinary need: dealing with the family's paperwork.

Why Holy PDF?

Holy PDF brings together free PDF tools: merge, split, organize, compress, convert. They work on your documents in your browser. No file leaves your device, from import to download.

The story

I had 5 GB left on my computer. So I started clearing things out.

I used to rely a lot on Photoshop and Illustrator, then my habits changed. I uninstalled them to get some space back. There was one I still held on to: Acrobat.

Because in the family, I am the person people send their documents to. A signature to add. PDFs to merge for an application. Photos of papers to turn into one PDF for my parents. I kept my Adobe subscription for that: a few PDFs, now and then.

Then the lack of space won, and I deleted Acrobat too. I told myself: “To do this once a month, I’ll surely find an online tool.”

In the tools I found, either I had to pay, or I had to hand my files to a site without really knowing what became of them. For a yogurt cake recipe, I ask myself fewer questions. For my mother’s ID card, I would like to know where it goes.

One day, it was one time too many. I decided to build the tool I needed. That is how Holy PDF was born.

The principle

Documents are processed right in your browser. They stay on your device: no server receives them to convert or combine them. The tools are free and work without an account. How it works.

The site’s code is free software, published under the AGPL-3.0-or-later licence on GitHub: the promise can be read, not just taken on trust.

Who is behind it

I am a developer. I build Holy PDF around very ordinary needs: preparing an application, helping your parents, dealing with a document and moving on. I also created Workout.cool, an open source fitness platform.

Write to the monastery

An idea for a tool, a bug, a kind word? Write to me.

If you are also the person the whole family sends their PDFs to, you probably know exactly what I mean.
