Protect a PDF with a password
Brother Padlock locks your PDFs with a password: without it, nobody opens them.
or drop them here
No file leaves your device, from import to download.
How to do it
- Drop one or more PDFs in the area above, or choose them on your device.
- Choose a password, then type it a second time.
- Click “Protect the PDF”, then download the protected copy.
Protecting a PDF with a password lets you send a sensitive document: a statement, a contract, an ID. Only the person who knows the password can open it.
Brother Padlock does everything on your device: your documents and your password never leave your computer or your phone.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF or my password sent to a server?
No. The encryption happens in your browser, on your device. Neither the file nor the password is sent or stored.
What if I forget the password?
Nobody can open the protected copy anymore, not even Holy PDF: we keep no trace of the password. Keep the original file until you have written the password down.
Which encryption is used?
The standard PDF encryption, read by Adobe Acrobat, Preview on Mac, web browsers and most PDF readers.
Does the password stop printing or copying?
No. The password opens the file. Once open, the PDF prints and copies as usual.
Can I protect several PDFs at once?
Yes. Drop them together: each gets the same password, then you collect them in a ZIP file on a computer, or through the share sheet on a phone.
Why is my signed PDF refused?
A PDF with a digital signature would lose its validity if it were rewritten. Holy PDF leaves it as it is.
